Case Study: Philip Nipah
A year ago Philip Nipah was in treatment for drug and alcohol abuse. Today he is an apprentice coach at Street League with a bright future. Philip tells his own story...
"If someone told me two years ago what my life would be like today I would have told them they were having a laugh! My journey with Street League started in treatment where I participated as a player. They always encouraged me with what they had to offer, and before long I was doing voluntary work as an assistant coach. This was invaluable. It helped me improve my communication skills and was a massive boost to my self-confidence.
"Considering the situation I came from, like a lot of the players at Street League, this was important because before I had little direction, no hope and little to aspire to. I am grateful to Street League for not only providing me with this opportunity, but enabling me to inspire others to show them that change is possible and there is a way out. The Coach Apprenticeship Scheme has allowed me to gain coaching experience and to develop key skills such as punctuality and responsibility as I facilitate sessions on my own.
"Street League has also supported me with the next step and my ambition to work as a football coach, helping me with my CV and my search for future employment. For this I am eternally grateful for the part Street League has played in my life."
