Directions 2 Work
Directions 2 Work (D2W) offers a range of personal development opportunities. Using football as a common language, the aim is to help people move towards education and employment by enhancing confidence, gaining formal qualifications and developing valuable life skills such as self-discipline, teamwork and communication.
Courses are held at a range of professional football stadiums including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. They include:
Route Planning
This one-day course is the first step for players. The aim is to identify goals both on and off the pitch, and how Street League can help these be realised. Participants leave the day with a plan of action and information on which other D2W courses are recommended..
Football Skills Day
A one-day course focused on identifying what skills are useful on the pitch and how these can be transferred to other walks of life such as teamwork, communication and leadership. The day includes writing a football and a work-based CV, as well as the chance for a game of football.
The Goals Project
This five-week personal development course is a fantastic opportunity to build confidence and new skills towards gaining employment or entering education. Courses are held at Millwall and QPR football stadiums, with graduation ceremonies at FA Headquarters in Soho Sqaure.
Formal coaching qualifications
Players who show potential as a football coach can be put forward for their FA/SFA Level 1 Coaching certificate.
Sport 4 Work (CSLA)
The Community Sports Leadership Award (CSLA) is a nationally accredited five-day course on how to run a well-structured, safe and fun training session for children. As a part of the course participants need to complete 10 volunteering hours. These can be achieved at Street League monthly Matchdays or by assisting at a youth club, or coaching children and young adults.
Fit 4 Work
Fit 4 Work is a nationally accredited programme providing knowledge, confidence and skills to get out there and get a job. It consists of sessions focusing on communication skills and interview techniques structured around football training sessions.
Referee Training
Players interested in becoming referees can be put forward for formal training and qualifications.
Coach Apprenticeship Scheme
Players with FA Level 1 and CSLA and can apply to join this scheme which offers 6-12 month part-time paid coaching positions with Street League. As well as gaining valuable experience in both coaching and administration, players can work towards gaining further qualifications.
