Street League Achieves Mentoring & Befriending Foundation Accreditation
Street League's Mentoring Scheme supports the work we do through the provision of one to one volunteer mentors. We've been running a mentoring programme for 2 years and now have over 15 active mentors meeting regularly with their mentees. Programme provides our players with an open forum to talk through potential progression routes plus any issues that they may have. The nature of the relationship is essentially dictated by what the player wants and what skills and knowledge the mentor possesses.
Due to its continuing success Street League’s mentoring programme has just received the Approved Provider Status (APS) from the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. This is a national benchmark for organisations providing one-to-one, volunteer mentoring or befriending. It is a national award supported by the Cabinet Office and Department for Children, Schools and Families and aims to provide programmes with a badge of competence and safe practice in mentoring or befriending.
APS aims to ensure the consistency and quality of mentoring and befriending programmes by focusing on the key management and operational areas of the programme including programme aims and management structure, procedures for identification and referral of clients, recruitment, selection and training of volunteers, monitoring of relationships and programme evaluation.
This is a great endorsement for Street League and one that will hopefully help our mentoring programme to continue to grow and produce excellent results for our players.
If you are interested in either becoming a volunteer mentor please contact Street League’s volunteer coordinator Sophie Hope or call 0208 536 5378.
