Air Football win David Beckham Cup Competition
London's Winter 2007 season ended on 23rd February with a carnival of football at the David Beckham Academy in North Greenwich. The top draw venue was hosting the end of season spectacular for the third season in a row and the football on display lived up to the prestigious venue in every way.
As the old guard were swept away by new teams, the final game of the day saw an enthralling contest between new boys GIC All Stars and second division winners, Air Football. After ten minutes of end to end action, Air Football emerged victorious, topping off a day that saw them win the second division, the Cup, their women's team take the women's league title and Leon Young, their influential forward, win the penalty shoot out. They also took home tickets to Leyton Orient v Huddersfield, donated kindly by the club and arranged by long time volunteer, Matthew Francis.
Excel FC took the first division trophy, along with tickets to Chelsea v Derby (kindly donated by the club's FITC). League runner's up AFC Hendon had the consolation of Hamza Mohamed, their holding midfielder, winning players' player of the year. The women's tournament was won by guest team, The Comets. A full list of winners can be downloaded here.
