PM applauds Street League
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the work of Street League during a visit as part of Sport Relief.
Gordon Brown met players and staff at a training session in Kennington, and said: "What I saw today is a project making a really positive difference to young people's lives. Sport Relief shows what you can achieve when organisations work together in partnership and I am delighted to support them." Street League received a £1 million grant from Sport Relief in 2007.
Coach Rizwan Aboo told the Prime Minister that Street League aims to provide structure and purpose "for guys at risk of getting involved in drugs, crime, and gang warfare. We try to channel their energy in the right direction and make them see sense and move them away from the gang lifestyle. Football instils things like timekeeping, organisation and communication, and we have plenty of lads here who have moved on to find work or get in to some sort of training."
