The Need |
There are now OVER one million 16-25 year old NEET in the UK.
Street League participants are the ones in most need of help within this group - young adults with no qualifications, disadvantaged backgrounds and often substance misuse or offending issues. Street League use the power of football to engage this group in structured football and education sessions with the ultimate aim of getting people into work, education or training.
Street League is the Football Charity - we're good at it. Currently 72% of our Academy participants progress from our programmes into jobs, College cources or apprenticeship schemes - all through the power of football. |
Research shows that young people are among the worst affected by the economic downtourn. Nearly double the percentage of 16 - 25 year olds are not in employment, education or Training (NEET) compared to the rest of the adult population.
Additionally there is a mounting body of evidence that strongly indicates being in this particular category of 16-25 year old NEET is often linked with other social issues such as being in care, teenage parenthood, homelessness and crime.
It is also widely acknowledged that being in work is hugely important for general well being, sense of identity and social mobility.
