Dale, 21, first engaged with Street League after attending a Street Football session at Toxteth Firefit.

Dale had a Level 1 qualification in food preparation and Level 1 in both English and Maths but was struggling to find work. However after speaking to Street League staff he decided to put himself forward for the Academy as he saw it as an opportunity to meet new people and improve his confidence and fitness.

During the Academy, Dale was always first to arrive for the sessions and rarely missed a day. He had the best punctuality and attendance on the Academy and was subsequently rewarded with a match day ticket to watch one of Liverpool's Premier League games.

Dale’s increase in confidence was really noticeable in group sessions and he carried this forward on to the football pitch. Dale's overall health also improved during the programme, and he was able to build up his fitness due to playing football every day.

On completion of the Academy programme, Dale worked with a Street League Aftercare Coordinator who helped him identify a traineeship in catering. Whilst undergoing the application process, Dale also sat aptitude tests for Johnsons Controls (a large electronics company in Liverpool), which are notoriously difficult. After receiving his test results, Dale found out he was one of only two from the group of 15 to pass.

Since graduating from the Academy, Dale has started a traineeship in catering. Dale said: “Before the Academy I was not doing anything, I had no job and I wasn’t on any courses. Street League has been the best thing I have ever done and I would recommend it to anyone who was in my position.”
