Sophie, from Tees Valley originally came to Street League in May 2015 after finishing school. She dropped out of college and was unsure what her next step was. Sophie was a good attender and positive member of the group, she just needed confidence and guidance. After completing the programme and work experience with 3S CIC as a sports coaching assistant she decided to return to college in September.

In summer 2016 we contacted Sophie as we had an opportunity for a female ex-participant to attend the European Championships as part of the Street Football World festival. Sophie worked as a volunteer at the festival and had a great time and gained some fantastic experience. After successfully finishing her college course, Sophie was unable to secure employment and rejoined Street League to get the support she needed. We invited her in for a meeting with our progressions coordinator Adam and aftercare consultant Vicky.  Vicky had a placement opportunity with a local Gym at the Sporting Lodge. Sophie agreed to a mock interview with Adam and Vicky to get a good understanding on the role and to see if she would be a good match for the position. Passing with flying colours, Vicky arranged an interview with the employer. Sophie got the job!

Sophie impressed her employer with her work ethic. Although there were no current vacancies in the gym, they gave her the opportunity to take a position in the adjoining hotel and complete her level 3 personal trainer qualification. As they wanted her to remain within the organisation, while waiting for a suitable vacancy in the gym. Sporting Lodge sees Sophie as a valuable employee to invest in for the future.

Sophie is continues to gain more qualification and work experience.

Sophie’s success demonstrates the value of our aftercare service and our commitment to the long-term support of the young people we work with.
