Shannon was referred to Street League by Skills Development Scotland. Initially very shy, Shannon struggled to make eye contact when communicating with staff but her time-keeping and attitude were excellent.

Seeing her potential, Street League staff offered Shannon a place on the Academy as they felt that she could make a positive improvement if she was challenged and taken out of her comfort zone. She embraced this challenge and the change that took place over the eight-week programme was remarkable. Shannon continually sought support and advice from staff to complete application forms and update her CV, and was keen to practice for interviews which she felt was invaluable experience.

On completion of the Academy Shannon had achieved two qualifications and went on to complete a sector-based training programme with Job Centre Plus. Shannon is now working as a care assistant and is volunteering as a coach with Fernieside Youth Football Club.
