Tomorrow night, on Thursday 12th October 2017, Street League & Sport Dans La Ville are hosting a fundraising gala dinner which hopes to raise over £100,000 to support young people from disadvantaged communities using the power of sport. The charity event, hosted at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London, has united politicians, famous sports players and major companies from the UK and France to come behind a common cause and help tackle the challenge of youth unemployment in both nations.

Street League and Sport Dans La Ville share a vision to use the power of sport to engage and develop young people’s skills, and have been collaborating on an exchange programme for seven years to support young people from disadvantaged communities move into jobs, training and education. This year they have joined together again to help raise awareness and essential funds to tackle the issue of youth unemployment, and to show that cross-channel collaboration will certainly continue in the face of Brexit.

The 250 guests will be addressed by Right Hon. Mark Field MP, Minister of State for the UK and Jeanne-Pierre Jouyet, the ambassador of France in London. There will also be two keynote speeches from Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of Total and Andy Ransom, CEO of Rentokil Initial. Also in attendance will be Premier League Arsenal footballers, Laurent Koscielny (Epic Ambassador for Street League) and Alexandre Lacazette, who will both say a few words about their support for the charities.

The guests, including employees from Total, Bank of America, DHL, State Street, and Chanel, can expect an evening of entertainment including performances from the New London Children’s’ Choir, a three-course dinner, and presentations from both charities on how the money raised will create life-changing opportunities for young people. Several young people who have been supported by both charities will also be sharing their journeys in an interview with the CEO of Sport Dans La Ville, Philippe Oddou.

Street League participant Mitchel, who had never been abroad before the exchange programme, said:

“The trip was absolutely brilliant. The whole atmosphere, being with everyone in a group, and meeting new people was so uplifting.”

Another Street League graduate, Brandon, who was previously experiencing homelessness and had been unemployed for more than a year, said:

"Street League has helped me to meet new people, build positive relationships and most importantly enabled me to experience new things. I am now in a positive, happy place because I am employed full-time. Without the support and guidance from Street League, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this goal!"
