Michelle filled with belief thanks to Street League help - Glasgow Michelle spent her early teens in Port Glasgow, living with her father. She twice left school and, as a 13-year-old, spent 11 months in a children’s home. Eventually she left school completely with no qualifications. Various training schemes and jobs followed, including five months working at M&Ds theme park in Strathclyde, before she got a carer’s allowance to look after her father. She was referred to Street League by Newarthill Activity Hub because of her passion for football, and excelled on the programme, gaining the Community Sports Leaders Award, SFA Level 1 coaching certificate and completing the Emergency First Aid at Work course. Michelle claims Street League helped her develop team-building and communications skills, fitness and most importantly her confidence. Speaking about her time at Street League Michelle said: “It showed me that I can see things through to completion when I put my mind to it. All I needed was the support and belief from others around me.” Michelle was successful in re-applying for her old job at M&Ds, showing her employer that with her new-found skills she was more than capable of showing 100% commitment.
