Nathan joined Street League in October 2019. He heard about Street League from one of our referral partners who is based in his local Community Hub. Nathan lives in Halton Moor which is really deprived area of Leeds and is the subject to lots of anti-social behaviour. He himself, has admitted to being in trouble with the police in the past however, he has now changed and no longer has any issues. He came to us with no work experience, no GCSE’s in Maths or English and extremely low on confidence. His original reason for joining was it gave him something and allowed him to get out of the house for a few hours a day. He is also very interested in football so the having the chance to play football everyday with us was too good to turn down.
He was enrolled onto our Level 2 Maths, Level 1 English and Level 1 Award in Progression at first and after being with us for 5 months, the pandemic hit, and everything was moved online. Nathan did not have any way of joining the online sessions at first so all of Nathans work was doing over the phone and through pictures of his work after. This proved very challenging for both of us. Luckily, the work Nathan had done before was good enough to be submitted as evidence and he subsequently passed his Math and English qualifications.
