Success Story: Stuart and Alex's Pathway to Employment in Construction
Inverclyde recently witnessed a significant success story through the efforts of Street League's 12-week Stage 3 employment programme, where two 17-year-old best friends, Stuart and Alex, achieved their professional goals in the construction sector.
Both young men entered the programme equipped with commendable academic qualifications and work experience. However, they faced notable challenges due to the limited job opportunities available in their area.
Their job applications often met with rejection, and they realised they needed assistance to refine their application skills. Street League provided essential support by helping Stuart and Alex develop professionally relevant CVs and facilitating access to valuable work placements.
Their commitment to the programme was evident, leading to enrolment in a CSCS training course, which afforded them critical qualifications for entering the construction industry.
Following outreach to local landscaping and construction firms, Stuart and Alex secured work placements at Platinum Paving. Their two-week work experience involved various tasks, including garden renovations and landscaping projects.
Due to their performance and dedication, the owner of the company, William, subsequently extended full-time job offers to both individuals. This successful transition into full-time employment has enabled Stuart and Alex to further enhance their qualifications.
They both passed their CSCS exams and earned a Customer Service Award, which will be beneficial for their careers.
Since their completion of the Street League programme, Stuart and Alex have maintained their friendship and have actively recommended the programme to peers, highlighting the positive impact it has had on their lives and careers.
Their journey highlights the importance of support and training in facilitating pathways to employment for young people in sectors with high demand for skilled workers.
